Bluebell Barcoding Day

A special hands-on workshop introducing DNA barcoding for identifying bluebells.

Wed 6 Apr 16 (All day)
Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, CB10 1SA

The iconic English bluebell is under threat from a new bluebell on the block, the Spanish bluebell. Spanish bluebells can cross breed with English bluebells to form a hybrid which threatens our native species.

In this exclusive event with the Wildilife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, participants will be introduced to the basics of DNA barcoding. They will learn how to extract bluebell DNA in the lab and how DNA Databases can be used to identify if the sample is English, Spanish or a hybrid. They will also be introduced to the online app Epicollect which can be used to monitor bluebells in the region.

This event is fully booked, however if interested please contact us for future events.
