Session overview
This course will provide practical advice to help you improve your writing for non-scientific audiences. It aims to give you tips to make your writing clear and engaging. The session will cover general writing and storytelling techniques, as well as specific tools for science writing. It will include information on writing for different formats such as websites, blogs and educational materials.
Who is this for?
Anyone who would like to start writing, or improve their writing, for non-specialist audiences. This might include people who would like to write for a blog, website, newsletter or education resource. Scientists aiming to improve their writing skills for communicating their own work to non-specialist audiences will also find the session useful.
What skills will you acquire?
Science writing skills; storytelling skills; science communication skills.
Where will you use this?
General skills learned in this session will be useful for any type of writing you do. Specific skills will help you communicate science to non-technical audiences – this could be part of public engagement or communications projects on or off Campus.
The Campus online learning resource, yourgenome.com, is currently looking for writers and so may be a good place to put your skills into practice.
