We aim to offer an inspiring and inclusive experience for all schools and groups visiting the Wellcome Genome Campus. We offer year-round opportunities to visit and explore the Campus and discuss the latest topics in genomics with staff. We can currently host groups of up to 30 students, our minimum group size is 15. Please be aware that we no longer provide visits for university groups.
School visits are only offered on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We can take a maximum of two school groups per week.
A typical secondary school visit lasts around two to three hours and can include:
- An introduction to DNA, gene and genomes and research on campus
- A presentation from a member(s) of campus staff
- A classroom-based activity
- A visit to the Open Lab and opportunity to see the one of the world's largest DNA sequencing facility
For younger groups we can offer a two hour visit which can include:
- Fun hands-on activities
- A visit to the genome gallery or the Open Lab
- Meet the scientist sessions
We are always happy to tailor the visits to meet the needs of your group, please contact us to discuss this.
Booking a visit to the campus
Our school visit policy has been reviewed and updated to reflect our commitment to supporting schools in areas of deprivation and low social mobility.
Due to the high number of requests for school visits to the campus, we will be reviewing all booking requests on a case by case basis with priority being placed on schools in these underserved communities. We will do our best to accommodate all requests but in some cases, it may not be possible to host visits on the dates requested, therefore we recommend calling us to discuss your visit requirements before completing a booking request form.
